Sydney Beaches: A Natural Antidepressant

Sydney Beaches

As much as I hate to admit it, it is holiday season. Even in Australia, Christmas music is playing everywhere. In fact, last night the dreadful sound snuck from the nearby carnival into my kitchen through the open window. I was not pleased.

Fortunately, Sydney beaches provide the perfect antidepressant for the holidays.

The sun, the gorgeous water, the soft sand, the beautiful cliffs. I’ve been away from Sydney beaches for only a week, and I’m already missing them.

Ferries constantly travel throughout Sydney’s harbor, dropping off passengers at a myriad of little towns, each with its own gorgeous beach. Walking paths are plentiful and so are maps outlining extensive hikes around each of the beaches.

We didn’t do as much walking as I would have liked since I was recovering from a chest cold and had a stress fracture in my foot (although, I was in denial about this for about a week and continued to walk on it, just not as far as I normally would have…).

The beaches had a restorative effect on my body and soul. After the frantic and anxiety-ridden departure from the United States, relaxing on a new beach every day was exactly what I needed.

My gift to you, this holiday season, is a virtual vacation to summer in Sydney. It’s free and you can go on this vacation as often as you need. You’re welcome.
