Nice is very nice: France Edition

Bonjour from Nice!

Nice has been our place to finally kick off our shoes and relax. The rest of our trip has been pretty busy, but in Nice I feel we can just stroll the streets, pick up a baguette, some cheese, some fresh veggies from the market and have a picnic all afternoon.

Yesterday, we spent most of the afternoon on the beach. I’m not sure how warm it was, but probably in the mid-80s Fahrenheit. I heard that back home it dipped to below freezing overnight, so we are relishing the bright, bright sun and beautiful temperatures!

Nice has a beautiful fruit and flower market every morning. These fresh spices were so fragrant! I might have to bring a few home with me in a few days.

Today we ventured into several museums. Fortunately, all the museums in Nice (or at least the great majority of them) are free. Hooray! We started off at the modern art museum, which was extensive and fantastic. My favorite pieces were by Niki de Saint Phalle. It was like looking at journal pages with doodles. It helped that they were in English. 🙂

There was another artist in the museum named simply Ben who was Italian. I liked all of his work 🙂 Especially this one:

We also went to the Matisse museum. We both were unimpressed with the collection. It felt like it was a house just for all the left overs that none of the other museums of the world wanted.

The food in Nice is very much influenced by Italian cooking since Italy is only 30 minutes away. Last night I had fantastic tagliatelli with tomatoes, eggplant, and zucchini. The noodles were fantastic!

Tonight, we plan to find some pizza to go (think Pizza Rustica from South Beach Miami) and have a picnic on the beach with a bottle of wine from our cycling tour (I’m so done with carrying wine in my bag!).

We are not exactly sure what we will do tomorrow, but more than likely it will involve spending several hours on the beach 🙂
