Life is all about the small moments.
The more I travel, the more I realize that I cherish the small moments much more than the big moments.
My brother’s 32nd birthday was this past Wednesday. I knew I wanted to do something special for his birthday, but I wasn’t sure what that would be. Martin scoured the internet – a play? a concert? a zip line? a jungle hike? Eventually, we decided to explore a neighborhood of San Jose, Costa Rica that we hadn’t yet seen.
Simply perfect.
My camera (newly purchased just this past September) has a defective part making it intermittently not work. All day Wednesday, the camera worked perfectly. I like to think this was my brother’s birthday gift to me.
One of our first discoveries was an adorable lunch place (Café Té Ría) with a gift shop (Ñ) next door.
San Jose is filled with beautiful green spaces.
In the National Park sits the National Monument of Costa Rica, which depicts a bunch of Costa Ricans beating the crap out of the asshole William Walker whom we learned about in Nicaragua.
The national library is across the street from the national park.
It is in an amazing building with all sorts of gems and helpful people. Both Martin and I list the library as one of our favorite places we discovered in all our travels so far.
I had so much fun just wandering the streets of San Jose and taking photos of whatever inspired me. We didn’t do anything grandiose, yet it felt like a special day. I was living in the moment. I was happy.
San Jose is often just a place travelers must go in order to go to other places in Costa Rica.
But for us, San Jose was our destination. We spent four lovely days in the city, relishing being in a larger city again.
Was that a rainbow tree? Great post! I liked that picture of Martin with the beak eating bird seed. ☺️
Yep! It is a rainbow eucalyptus tree. The park was filled with them.
Hi Jill! I love reading your posts every week. Safe travels
Thanks! I hope you had a blast exploring Guatemala!
Beautiful! Glad it was such a nice day. 🙂
